  • Firms to collaborate on international waste decarbonisation projects.
  • Tadweer Group to commission a first of its kind pilot project in Abu Dhabi by end of 2024.
  • Levidian to support Waste to Zero initiative in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment focused on decarbonisation.

Abu Dhabi and Cambridge, 18 April: Tadweer Group and UK climate leader Levidian have joined forces on international waste decarbonisation projects. Tadweer Group to develop a first-of-its-kind pilot project in Abu Dhabi to be commissioned by the end of 2024.

Oliver Christian, HM Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, said: “Today’s announcement between UK company Levidian and Tadweer Group clearly demonstrates the joint ambition to tackle one of the largest climate challenges facing the world today. Tadweer Group’s commitment to the circular economy coupled with Levidian’s climate tech innovation to decarbonise hard to abate sectors will unlock unprecedented opportunities in waste to energy and waste to value, not just here in the UAE but across the globe.”

The companies have a shared ambition to explore decarbonisation projects of landfill sites around the world through the deployment of Levidian’s LOOP technology, producing millions of tonnes of clean hydrogen and carbon negative graphene. This can be used as a high-quality additive to increase the performance of materials as wide-ranging as concrete, batteries and plastics.

Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer Group, said: “We’re proud to invest in Levidian as a pioneer in the sustainability sector to bring LOOP technology to the UAE. We are committed to collaboration with like-minded organisations to harness advanced technologies and pioneer unprecedented solutions, challenging the way we view and handle waste for generations to come. Our forward-thinking enables us to work with experts including Levidian to drive positive change, creating the blueprint for merging world-class solutions with international collaboration.”

John Hartley, CEO of Levidian said: “Countless studies have shown the scale of the challenge facing the waste sector in climate terms. Together with Tadweer Group, our mission is to help waste companies and governments on their decarbonisation journeys by unlocking the value of waste; driving down emissions and creating a new revenue stream for businesses that means they no longer have to make the choice between planet and profit.”

This mobile system will then be used as part of the programme to develop further decarbonisation projects in the UAE and beyond, with the aim of showcasing the technology as a scalable solution to the world’s waste methane problem.

Levidian is also set to join the global Waste to Zero initiative and will support the development of the sector’s pathway to decarbonisation.
