Visit highlights advanced infrastructure supporting Abu Dhabi’s transition towards a circular economy

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 13 October 2026: Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), visited Tadweer Group’s Al Ain Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and EcoPark. The visit highlighted the advanced infrastructure being developed to strengthen resource recovery, reduce reliance on landfill and support Abu Dhabi’s transition towards a more circular and resource-efficient economy.

During the visit, Dr Al Dhaheri was briefed on the transformation of the Al Ain MRF, which has reached 50% completion. Once operational, the upgraded facility will have the capacity to process 400,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste annually and is expected to divert approximately 60% of Al Ain’s municipal solid waste from landfill each year.

Dr Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, said:

“The progress Tadweer Group is making in Al Ain reflects Abu Dhabi's efforts to build an integrated waste management system that supports the emirate's target of diverting 80% of waste from landfill by 2031.

Our collaboration ensures these projects are developed to the highest environmental standards, advancing the circular economy and environmental protection alongside the economic growth and urban expansion the emirate is experiencing.”

Etienne Petit, Chief Executive Officer of Tadweer Group, said:

“We are honoured to welcome Dr Shaikha Al Dhaheri to our facilities in Al Ain. Her visit underscores the strategic importance of the infrastructure we are developing and Tadweer Group’s role in advancing a future-ready resource-management ecosystem that supports Abu Dhabi’s ambition to divert 80% of waste from landfill by 2031.”

Dr Al Dhaheri also toured EcoPark, where she was briefed on Tadweer Group’s vision to develop an integrated resource-recovery ecosystem in Al Ain. The concept brings complementary waste-management and recovery activities together to maximise the value recovered from resources, strengthen local recovery capacity and reduce reliance on landfill. The upgraded MRF is a key component of this wider vision, supporting a more connected approach to resource management in the region.

Dr Al Dhaheri was also introduced to Tadweer Group’s AI-enabled vehicles, which illustrated how advanced technology can complement physical infrastructure and support smarter, more efficient waste-management operations. Together, the EcoPark concept and the vehicle reflect the Group’s approach to combining infrastructure and innovation to advance resource recovery.

The Al Ain MRF is expected to be completed in early 2027 and will play an important role in strengthening long-term resource-recovery capacity in Al Ain.

The visit reflects the continued collaboration between Tadweer Group and EAD in advancing Abu Dhabi’s environmental priorities and developing the infrastructure and capabilities required to accelerate circularity and maximise the value recovered from resources.
